Benefits of Jikiden Reiki on the mind

Mind Body connection

The mind is inextricably linked to the body.  Most people are well aware and have experienced that when they are stressed or anxious, they tend to get sick more easily.  My experience has shown me that the way I choose to think and the way I perceive the world around me - people, situations, nature, even objects, has an effect on my body and my health.  Our bodies have physical reactions to our thoughts because our thoughts create our feelings.

For example, when I worry about not having enough money and I worry on a daily basis, I start to feel terrible because I don't know how I am going to pay my bills.  I can feel a reaction in my body when I think about it.  If my body were to feel that stress reaction regularly, or even constantly, it would lower my immune system, and it would cause physiological changes in my body (toxins would build up) that are not in any way optimal for my health.  In fact, they can cause serious health problems for me.

At times like these, giving yourself physical Reiki (or getting treatment) would certainly be a tremendous help, it would clear the toxins building up as a result of the stress.  However, it would not take the source of those toxins away - and so you may well find them building up again very soon.  That is something to look at and to decide how you can change your thoughts so that you start thinking healthier thoughts……  easier said than done I know!

So how do you change those damaging thoughts?

Even just the awareness that you know and say you want to change your thoughts will help you.  Imagining how it would feel to be free from worry would also help you to train your mind to follow the path you choose.  The Gokai (Reiki principles) were designed by Usui sensei to help people change the way they think and become more healthy.  Psychological Reiki is also extremely effective at this time and has helped me to consciously make enormous changes in my thinking and consequently my health and my life.

Psychological Reiki

The psychological aspects of Reiki really surprised me at first.  I found that after I had taken the seminar and as I practiced over time, I naturally seemed to become calmer, less worried and more laid back, and I could sit in silence in a way I had never been able to before.  I felt more grounded and more confident in myself.

In addition to this, I used the psychological Reiki to help me with habits that had come to my awareness that I wanted to change. For example, I have given myself psychological Reiki for worrying too much and for procrastination.  I have treated others for various habits including stubbornness, laziness and impatience. The results often amaze me. When I treat myself, I sometimes find that I don’t notice any difference for a few days, then suddenly, I will realise that I am no longer stuck with that habit – and it happened without me even thinking about it!

Extreme habits or addictions

Our minds also play a large part in habits or addictions like smoking and drinking. Psychological Reiki sessions can help you to cut down or stop smoking or drinking if you want to. The number of sessions you need to stop altogether varies for each person. I have found that some people stop after 3 sessions while some need many more…my recommendation is that you learn how to do it for yourself so that you can treat yourself as often as you need to – and if you should ever have the urge to start again, you can easily help yourself on the spot.

Longer term issues

More severe psychological issues can also be treated using Reiki – depression, anxiety and trauma for example. For people who have been living with something for a long time, it will take longer to see significant results, yet most people notice some effects from early on in treatment.

Clearing the path

Because Reiki works in harmony with the body and soul, it brings up only what a person can cope with at the time. What this means in practical terms is that sometimes a person will simply feel better, other times core issues that are connected with the symptoms being treated may come to the surface and the awareness of the person receiving Reiki before they are released. Whatever happens, you can trust that Reiki is working for your highest good and that what is coming up is doing so because it is clearing the path for you to become more of who you want to be.

My experience is that the benefits Reiki has on the mind for those who learn it and for those who receive treatments are many, feel great and can be very surprising.
